Happy Holi

Holi is unique and the second biggest Hindu festival after Diwali. It is the festival of Colour and love. Holi is the most fun-filled festival where people celebrate it with dancing, singing and playing with colours. Numerous legends and stories are associated with Holi celebration which makes it more exuberant and vivid. The festival signifies the victory of good over evil, the arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive, and repair ruptured relationships.



Interestingly, in India, different cities and states have their unique traditions and ways of celebrating this day. Normally people play holi with Gulal and Abeer but at some places they have their unique way for celebrating holi as Lathmar Holi, Khadi Holi, Manjal Kuli, Pholon ki Holi, and lot more. Great excitement is been seen among people to play Holi. It is a festival where all becomes kids and play with colours with full craziness. Children take special pleasure in spraying colours on one another with their pichkaris and throwing water balloons.

On this day streets turns multi-coloured with bright holi colours. Everything becomes so colourful and beautiful. Some families hold religious ceremonies, but for many Holi is more a time for fun than religious observance. After a fun filled and exciting day, they spent the evening in sobriety when people meet friends and relatives and exchange sweets and festive greetings.

Different communities in India celebrate Holi with Holi’s special food. Few special holi dishes eaten on this special day, the most popular and common of which is Thandai with the addition of Bhaang. Maharashtrains prefer Puran Poli. North Indians prepare Shakarpara and Gujjias - a sweet samosa filled with mava, coconut, dry fruits which is fried and dipped in a sugar syrup. Gujaratis make sweet Khichdi and sweets like Kheer, Basundi and Halwa.
